Cotter & the Coffee Fairy

School holidays have come to end. Sniff!

I've loved having Harry at home and I must confess, I've enjoyed a break from the daily school run. We braved the grey skies and rounded off the hols with a bbq breakfast at Cotter Dam.

 

Canberra is ablaze with Autumn colour and Cotter was blanketed in gold.

 

 

Can I just say how GREAT it is to be dressing in layers again. Hello scarves and jackets and beanies!!!

 

 

The picnic grounds at Cotter have some stunning locals. Love a bbq at the best of times but most of all when there's a bit of a chill in the air.

 

 

I made the cardinal sin of forgetting to pack the milk to make our coffees and lo and behold, just as I'd resigned myself to a caffeine free breakfast, a vision on four wheels rocked up in the carpark.

Thank you Coffee Fairy!!!

 

 

It seemed too good to be true but sure enough, Our Dream Cafe came to the rescue. Couldn't quite believe a mobile cafe was all the way out at Cotter!

 

 

Canberrans...if you want a caffeine hit at your next function, give this guy a bell. I highly recommend him! It was really, really great coffee! Totally made our breakfast! After our little feast we went for a stroll along the creek.

 

 

There was a lot of rock plonking and exploring and general chit chat.

 

 

Love spending time with dear friends in such a beautiful spot. Am determined to get out and about a lot more this year. How was your weekend, long or otherwise?

A happy place...

Diagnostic Day today...

 

 

To distract myself I thought I'd post some pics from Sunday morning's BBQ breakfast at Cotter Dam with Benny & Savannah.

 

It was such a gorgeous morning, perfect for a little stroll along the creek.

 

 

With time to sit in the sun, dabble our toes in the water and watch a Mummy Duck with her babies.

 

 

And time to plonk rocks and search for little fishes by the reeds.

 

 

I think I'll transport myself back there this morning during my scans.

Yes, that will be my happy place today.

Holy Smoques

Its a week later than promised but we finally managed to get to Smoque for our date night on Thursday. Attach your bibs and prepare to drool!

 

 

I picked up Hubby from work and we headed to this little gem of an American Bar tucked away in the city. I'd purposefully skipped lunch in anticipation of dinner...yes, I was that excited!

We rocked up at 7:30 & requested a couple of seats at the bar.

 

 

I ordered a G&T, Hubby went for a Samuel Adams and it took us all of about three seconds to decide to go for the BBQ Trifecta and Vegetable platters.

Sweet Mary Jane...it was a carnival of carnivorous delight.

 

And a veritable vege patch of pleasure!

 

 

You know what's great about going out on a date with the person you've been partners with for 13 years? The ability to sit and feast without the need for chit chat to fill the space.

Do you know what's great about going out on a date to a BBQ bar...the casualness of the joint. Rolls of paper towel on the counter, self serve cutlery if you don't feel like using your fingers and friendly staff.

 

 

We loved feeling completely comfortable just hanging out on bar stools, knees touching, reaching over each other as we tried different parts of the platter, with the occasional lipsmacking exclamation of "oh that is awesome, you have to try that" escaping from our lips.

 

 

Not really the stuff of first dates, not sure you'd impress a future partner with bbq sauce on your chin...but for those foodies who are all about flavour, this is one hell of a jackpot!

 

 

It was fun and laid back and completely delicious!

And because it was a night for being naughty...

 

 

Sweet Treats.

I'm kind of wishing now that we'd gone for the peanut butter and bacon icecream but the pecan pie was calling our name and we had to answer!

 

 

And answer we did...

 

We will definitely be back...
